The Australian patent attorney profession is currently regulated by the Professional Standards Board for Patent Attorneys. A reform is currently being proposed by IP Australia that would see the establishment of a single Trans-Tasman Governance Body with responsibility for patent attorney eduction & regulation. This Body would be responsible for a common register of patent attorneys; consistent qualification requirements for registration as a patent attorney, a single patent attorney code of conduct and a single disciplinary regime.
