In the ten years since launching, we have worked tirelessly to build a team of industry specialist patent attorneys, each offering a unique skillset and breadth of experience. As we continue on a growth trajectory across the firm, we are excited to announce the addition of two outstanding Senior Associates to our Sydney and Melbourne offices.
As both a US Patent Trade Marks Attorney and Australian Solicitor at Baxter IP in Sydney, Paula Natasha Chavez brings a wealth of expertise in drafting and prosecuting mechanical and software patents for household names in the technology industry. In fact, her impressive 25-year career began in the tech ‘heartlands’ of the United States where she worked as an associate for a Silicon Valley top tier general practice followed by an industrious stint in Portland’s Silicon Forest. There, she excelled as General Counsel for two tech companies before moving to IP Lawyer for PNC consulting, representing clients such as Motorola and General Motors. Since moving to Australia in 2010, Paula has to come to be known for her passion and vision as a prolific publisher in the Australian legal landscape on the importance of intellectual property protection.
For Michael Smith, a Patent and Trade Marks Attorney based at our Melbourne office, it was a lifelong interest in physics and justice that led him to a career in IP law. As an Attorney, Michael has developed an extensive practice in the prosecution of patents, trade marks and designs in Australia and internationally. His specialties are broad ranging, with experience in medical devices, electrical engineering, computer implemented inventions and shipping technology. Working as a lawyer since 2008, he has expertise in managing IP rights and defence/enforcement actions in the Australian courts. Motivated by helping people transform the world by turning great ideas into reality, Michael is dedicated to advising his clients on how to best leverage their products through market positioning and strategic commercial decisions.
As we look to the future, we warmly welcome both Paula and Michael to Baxter IP.
