Chris has extensive experience in international intellectual property law and regularly presents to firms overseas on comparative patent law, particularly as it relates to software. In 2011, Chris presented to firms in the United States and China and in 2010, to firms in Japan and Korea. Having been interviewed on the subject of international IP in the news, at conferences, business magazines and recently live on the Apple v. Samsung patent wars on CNBC, Chris stays abreast of developments in each country by attending international IP conferences and by staying in close contact with his network of international associates.
“The intricacies of patent law in each country evolve month-to-month, requiring continuous improvement of drafting techniques and strategies… patent attorneys can set the stage for successful international prosecution even at the earliest stages of preparing provisional patent applications for Australian clients.”
Before starting Baxter IP, Chris was an in-house patent attorney at ResMed, one of Australia’s largest medical devices manufacturers, where he regularly drafted and prosecuted patent applications in the US, Europe, China, India, Australia & New Zealand. Chris has also worked at two large Australian patent and trade mark attorney firms.
Since early 2007, Chris has grown the firm to 15 staff (as at July 2011) and has experience running over 10 businesses across a broad range of technological fields. Chris’s innovation approach was recognised in 2011 in the 30 under 30′s Anthill awards for entrepreneurs as a founder/director of/strategic advisor and investor in:

- Baxter IP Commercialisation Advisers (IP Results Pty Ltd), a full service intellectual property commercialisation consultancy
- Biometic Pty Ltd, a biotechnology startup that manufactures bioabsorbable scaffolds for cell culture
- FiveO, the app leading the 2012 mobile retail revolution
- Nexel Pty Ltd (Intellectual Property Software)
- Kinesus, a biotechnology startup working with Sydney-based surgeons on meniscule repair technology (to be incorporated in 2011)
- Ditjet Australia, Ditjet Australia, a construction startup in sub soil drainage solutions
As a result of his commercial and industrial experience, Chris is very upfront and open with clients about their prospects of success. “Being a patent attorney is not just a job. We are dealing with clients’ commercial protection. The results we get have to be the best available for our clients, anything else is letting them down.”
Chris has a Masters Degree in Industrial Property from the University of Technology, Sydney during which he received the award for 1st place in Trade Mark Law and received first class honours and the thesis prize in Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Sydney.
